view from the seats

FORM
Basically, it is semicircle in order to ensure the users of promenade can have different view in every angles.

SEATING ORIENTATION
2 kinds of seating place; adjustable and fixed.
fixed seating place is set at “A” to avoid users to face to the female toilet nearby.
the position of the adjustable one is away from the toilet so the chair can be free to adjust.

ROOF
the requirement of roof design is adjustable so that the user are free choose whether to be sheltered or not.
the way to adjust the roof is similar to the theory of closing a chinese fan. in addition, it is controlled manually by the users with a single pull of the cable.
light material like canvas is chosen to be the main material of the roof.

the model: roof can be opened or closed by pulling the string

Sculpture

1st Project of 1st Year 2nd Sem

Sculpture

Task: a sculpture wih polystrene as the main material is required.

Precedence Study: Pagoda

The idea of the number of stories and the sides of pagoda is base on the concept, Yin and Yang.
according to Yin and Yang concept that applied in pagoda,
odd number = Yang; even number = Yin
the concept had been applied to the sculpture where:
  • 3 levels/ elements (odd number); 4 sides of base/ square base (even number)
  • the orientation of the sculpture is due to the sun path to create silhouette. the Yin and Yang idea of the pagoda is adapted in the number of fishes in second storey;
  • the east and west faces of sculpture have 5 (odd number) fishes as the sun represent Yang;
  • the north and south faces have 6 (even number) fishes which is Yin to balance the Yang.

The Working Process

as polystrene is very light material, it can easily be blown if the wind is too big
so the base is more solid than the upper components..
wires are installed inside the sculpture as reinforcement and also connectors to hold the components.
this was a group work which i complete it with my group member, boon tick

COMFORT - good ventilation, good mosquitoes repellent, enough space
PRIVACY
SURVIVE IN BAD WEATHER - waterproof material of base and layer.
SIMPLE AND LIGHT STRUCTURE - ease for assemble, dismantle and carry.

we have been ask to collect the "rubbish" from anywhere, anyone.. we are not allowed to spend in this project.. however, the transport money i spend while searching the material is not very low..
wiring pipe as the the main structure, umbrella cloths as covering..
took me lots of time to collect..

Painting

1st project of 1st Year 1st Sem

My very 1st Project is painting via wet media

Topic: Environmental Art
Environmental art emerged in the 1960’s in response to the environmental movement. Its intent is to facilitate a sustainable balance between human and non-human nature through restoration, education, and multi-disciplinary collaboration. In a general sense, it is art that helps improve our relationship with the natural world. Environmental arts hold great potential as tolls of environmental education and restoration. Environmental art is an art which observes and interacts with the (usually natural) environment. It interprets nature, creating artworks that inform us about nature and its processes, or about environmental problems we face.

Karla Muray as presedence study of painting technique..

My painting includes 2 main items: tropical rainforest and rafflesia.

The first concept is about the appreciation of our mother earth. So, I try to bring out comfortable feeling in a rainforest.
  • The green colour of leave can make our eyes feel comfort and the environment in rainforest can rejuvenate our mind.
  • Also, the oxygen is released and carbon dioxide is absorbed by the green plants through photosynthesis. So, we'll feel cool and comfort inside the forest. The tall trees of rainforest block most of the sunlight and warmness of sun.

The second concept is about the environmental problem that all folks face these day. In order to create public awareness, the extinction of rafflesia, the greatest flower will brought out indirectly about deforestation.
  • Rafflesia is discovered very deep in Indonesia rainforest by Dr Joseph Arnold in 1818. It seems to be a secret because nobody knows about it before the discovery.
  • It can be found in rainforest in our country and this make Malaysians feel proud as the greatest flowers exist in our country too.
  • However, deforestation is the main reason in destroying the habitat of rafflesia and yet, these great flowers begin to extinct.

the process..
final product
the appreciation and awareness of the nature were created through the loneliness of rafflesia
